Boutique Highlight: Chic Style

Have you ever known that woman who always looks so perfectly “put together?”

If she lives in the Ogden area, there’s a good chance she shops at Chic Style Boutique. “Why?” you ask? Because Chic Style is about more than current fashion – it is about building a wardrobe.

There are many tips and tricks to building wardrobes, and whether you’re in the South Ogden or the Eden Chic Style location, you’ll find it is easy to abide by these rules. So put on some heels and that perfect black dress and join us as we explore wardrobe building at its finest – Chic Style!

Wardrobe Rule #1: Spend your money on classic items, knowing that trendy items will be out next season.

When you hear someone use the term “disposable clothing,” you know they’ve been around the fashion world. So, when I spoke with owner D’Arcy and she explained Chic Style’s philosophy of carrying higher quality classic pieces and having cheaper trendy pieces, I knew she got it. Trendy pieces will last a season or two and then be “disposable,” so you need to throw some extra cash at classics. Chic Style knows this and gives you both. In fact, if you’re thrifty, you can get a whole outfit (with accessories) for $60, but we’d also recommend spending a little more on wardrobe building pieces such as the perfect blazer or pair of jeans.

Wardrobe Rule #2: Choose colors that work with your coloring.

Have you ever wandered around a chain store looking for the perfect color? This summer, I’ve searched high and low for a peek of mint and tangerine. There’s no wandering in Chic Style though, as you’ll find the store organized in color theories. While searching through your favorite colors, you’ll often find a variety of styles and sizes in within each grouping. While you still need to look at the structure of the garment, this is a quick way to narrow down choices, yet give you options that will match your own coloring. It makes for quick trips – until you break out into that new color.

Wardrobe Rule #3: Choose fit over tag size.

If you’re like me, you’ve had that moment when you try on a pair of pants and ask if the tag is mismarked.

“Really? This is my normal size after all….”

As trends change, stylists note that so do sizes. When skinny jeans are in, for example, I tend to go one size up so washer shrinking doesn’t make it hard to move in when I first put them on. Personal preferences aside, one tip to wardrobe building is looking at the fit and not the tag size. That is why you’ll love Chic Style. It has brands for curvy girls, not just model fits. You’ll also find jeggings in the current trendy colors. Right now the stores are stocked with turquoises, pinks, oranges and more. And for those looking to fall, keep your eye out for gem colors. These darker colors will slim pair-shaped women and add a new twist to fall.

If you’re having a hard time finding your size locally, give Chic Style a try. They carry a variety of XL options and typically carry jeans a size larger than other boutiques. With both Junior and Misses sizes, you’ll have more luck finding your size; however, don’t take that as a sign that stock is always on the shelf. You’ll still find unique items, and the store will carry a total size run of 6 to 8 pieces, so you’re fit will feel unique to you.

Wardrobe Rule #4: Every item you buy should work with at least two other items in your wardrobe.

If you are a boutique shopper, you are likely someone who wants to look different, all while staying on trend and fashionable. By shopping at stores such as Chic Style, you have the option of doing this, all while building your closet. The shopping rule of thumb: don’t buy a piece that won’t work with at least two items you already own. Now, we qualify this with the fact that there are some trendy items that will come and go over a season, but to really get that polished look (and bang for your buck), you want to adhere to this rule. It will help you by clothes you truly love and want to wear.

The thing you;ll love about this rule is that it keeps your closet organized and you never put that one shirt or pair of shoes to waste. As I perused the Eden Chic Style, I was surprised to see how well the sales associates get this principle, without really stating it. Their nuance to fashion is remarkable. They will tell you if something doesn’t look good, but then they’ll recommend something that will work for your shape. Once you find that perfect piece, they remember you and help you find options that will work for you. Whether it is color, fit or style, the associates I’ve met have a good eye for understanding what your personality is and what you feel comfortable wearing.  If you’ve ever met D’Arcy, the owner and buyer, you’ll understand why this is. With a family background in design, D’Arcy understands that if is doesn’t look good, you won’t feel good. She’s truly in it for you, and she passes this mentality down to her sales staff. At the end of the day, they’d rather you find something you like than let you walk out with something you’ll never wear again.

Wardrobe Rule #5: Don’t forget the basics.

Have you ever brought home that new flashy piece, but needed a tank to go underneath? Let me introduce you to the layering room. Starting at just $6.99 you can choose from a variety of trendy colors and neutral classics to give that special look to your wardrobe. I’m not talking a white, black and brown tank here. You’ll find a full spectrum of colors. Whether it is plum, yellow or turquoise, you’ll find the option you need here. And with a lower price point, you can update seasonally.

Building a wardrobe is an art, but one that is easily done with the help of Chic Style.  They look at their store and their product from the customer’s eye – which is something I think you’ll notice when you visit. In addition, the boutique supports US-based companies and Utah designers! You’ll notice great finds like *Just Be* purses and locally made earrings all made here in Utah. Monthly trunk shows also highlight a variety of designers, as well as emphasize that unique shopping option for customers.

If you’re a wearer of romantic styles, you have to visit the Eden store. Hidden among beautiful mountains (and a great town for a spa and girl’s day get away), the store is perfect mixture of a vintage feeling shabby chic get away. Its feminine décor and emphasis also provides a quant tourist spot with a wall full of goodies such as their famous pumpkin pretzels and lollipops. And you can pick up the perfect gift for a girlfriend with some bubble bath, lotions, sea salt caramels and accessories (whether they are shades, necklaces, bracelets or a new blouse). Everything you buy comes with a free gift wrap, so it really is a one-stop shop.

The South Ogden store is more on trend and higher end. You’ll love the nail polish options and both stores have inspiration boards, whether it is cutouts from current magazines or vendor catalogs in the dressing rooms. They not only help you find a way to style your look, but also show how on trend you’ll be.

At the end of the day, if you’re looking to build your wardrobe at a location that goes out of its way to find unique pieces and helps it’s customers, stop by Chic Style. While these wardrobe tips are universal for any boutique, D’Arcy and her team are going to be that instant friend you wish you could always shop with – the one not afraid to tell you the truth about that cocktail dress or top you just tried on. Chic Style will change the way you shop, and change your outlook on wardrobes.
