Utah loves the multi-use maxi

Nicole Richie and Blake Lively have worn them on the red carpet and lucky for us, we can wear them dressed up or dressed down. For those wanting comfort, the maxi dress is perfect this season.

Traditionally, women have turned to the maxi during pregnancy as the dress is usually defined with an elastic top and flowing bottom; however, this comfortable dress can take the everyday woman from the grocery store to a day on the Salt Flats. They are also perfect for the hot summers as they keep you cool.

The versatility of a maxi is defined by the accessories. Pair a dress with a blazer for a more fitted, business look. For a trip to the grocery store throw on a quick shrug and you’re set. And never fear – if you don’t feel bathing suit worthy, you can throw a maxi over your suit as you strut around the pool.

This season’s maxi gets you almost anywhere – whether you want an art deco, polka dot, floral or solid print. With dresses in Utah boutiques usually ranging from $24 – $90, you should be able to find an option you love at a price-point you can afford. Throw on a patterned blazer for an even funkier or sophisticated look and no one will be wondering if you’re sacrificing comfort for style.

And for those who don’t feel they can pull off the full maxi dress, go for a maxi skirt.  For ideas on how to rock the look, check out stylist Jen Clyde on Good Things Utah.

Patterned Blazers

It is official. We’re in love with printed blazers. Unlike last season when blazers were more reminiscent of the 80s with shoulder pads that were at times very large, this season’s blazer is the perfect fit for a variety of body types and sizes. In addition, they come in fun colors such as this seafoam blazer from Forever 21. The national chains have taken the blazer to news levels in terms of variety, but we’re loving some of the local looks which include florals and stripes.

What are your favorite patterns?

Feeling blue this Monday morning?

We know it by many names: turquoise, teal, sea green and more. But no matter what shade or name you use, blues are in this season.

It looks great paired with orange, and for the bold, red pants add an extra oomph this spring. But one thing we’ve noticed is the blue on blue look. From dresses to accessories, mixing blues seems to be the it thing at Utah boutiques right now.

The secret to wearing this trend is to wear the darker blue in the area you feel least comfortable with. If it is your stomach, wear the darker color around your waist, as eyes are drawn to the lighter colors.

As blue is one of our favorite colors and looks great on so many skin tones, check it out locally this season. As seen above:

Jewelry Organizer

It is always the debate (and if you don’t believe us, check out Pinterest): how do we store our jewelry?

The requirements of jewelry boxes include storage methods that make accessories easily accessible and tangle-resistant – which turns out to be quite the feat. Personally, I resorted to buying a bar and hooks from Ikea to store my necklaces which are far too long for any non-hanging storage.

Others have used frames and chicken-wire, but our fellow Utah blogger Sew Dang Cute Crafts took it one step further: the jewelry medicine cabinet. This idea creates the ultimate hanging storage, when one screen won’t do – why not add more?

So head on over to check out the DIY goods. Then tell us, how do you store your jewelry?
